Imbolc is the first of pagan holiday of the new year! It falls on February 2nd every year (in the Northern hemisphere). Historically, this was a time for the lambing season in farming communities (and still is). It is the first of the Spring rites welcoming the sun back as it grows stronger and days begin to get longer.
The second Spring rite is Ostara (around the time of the Christian Easter and Jeweish Passover) that is the Spring Equinox.
The final Spring festival is marked by Beltan, the time of the great marriage sometimes referred to as "May eve". We generally celebrate Beltane on May 1st in the US, but historically it was celebrated when the Hawthorne bloomed in the British aisles.
Imbolc is a time when the earth begins to stir under her blanket of snow and ice. The first signs come in the birth of baby animals. The return of certain specials from their warmer Winter climates is the next sign. This is a very early holiday, so many of those signs of Spring may not yet be visible to your eye or where you live...but it's beginning!
This ritual kit is designed to give you the supplies to celebrate Imbolc. Time to celebrate the return of light and warmth and give gratitude for living through the long Winter. Now we begin to prepare for the coming of the planting season. Soon our gardens will explode with life during longer days ahead.
While it still feels like winter, we can start thinking about our summer gardens! We can plan which seeds to buy and where to put bright flowers to attract birds and bees.
Here in New Hampshire we buy hanging Fuscias each year to attract hummingbirds as they come North each summer. I spend many hours happily watching my little friends visit the hanging plants and hummingbird feeders we put out!

Offering herbs include Chamomile flowers, Lavender flowers and Rosemary, with essential oils of Rosemay, Roman Chamomile, German Chamomile and Lavender. You can burn this mix on a piece of indoor charcoal, or use in a small bowl as a fairy sized offering!
